New Delhi, 24 March. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Wednesday said that at present 1.49 lakh entry level posts are vacant in the Indian Railways. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, he said that among all the zones, Northern Railway has the highest number of 19,183 entry-level posts vacant. The South Central Zone of Indian Railways with 17,022 vacancies is second in terms of vacancies.

Let us inform that in December last year, after the violent demonstration of the examinees over allegations of rigging in the railway examination, the Railways had postponed the NTPC and Level 1 examinations and formed a committee to probe the allegations. Violent protests erupted in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh over rigging of recruitment exams.

The examinees alleged that more than 7 lakh applications were shortlisted after the examination, while the actual number of candidates was 3.84 lakh. The candidates alleged that the same person was shortlisted for more than one post.
