The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022, with the support of FIFA and other stakeholders, organized five editions of the Coach Education Scholarship Program, providing access to over 100 licensed women’s coaches as well as the Indian football ecosystem. has benefited. Coach Education Scholarship Program, which is a special effort to nurture and inculcate leadership qualities in more and more women coaches at the grassroots level, was launched on International Women’s Day (8 March 2021) at Kuprez Stadium, Mumbai in the first edition. happened together. This was followed by four more editions in Pune, Kolhapur, Delhi and Thane respectively.

The objective of this program is to guide young girls from the local community who dream of playing football, along with providing entry to the talented and aspiring coaches to the grassroots level of women’s football. Coaches aspiring to make a career in football who have taken the e-licensed coaching course have benefited from this program with knowledge about both practical and theoretical aspects of the game. With an aim to drive the continued growth of women’s football in the Indian sports landscape, the curriculum has been designed keeping in mind the safety of all involved.

Indian national team member and football icon Bala Devi participated in the Pune leg of the event as the star guest. In her speech, Bala Devi said with inspiring words, “This coaching program is a very important initiative for the generations to come. All of you (women trained in this program) will nurture the stars of tomorrow. I wish all the participants with their future. Along with this, I also wish all the best for the future of those people whom she will be coaching in the times to come.

Shri Kushal Das, General Secretary, All India Football Federation (AIFF) said, “The Coach Education Scholarship Program reflects our intention to create an equitable platform. It will help women from the local community to take up football and at the same time many Will encourage young girls to take up this sport and look at football as a career. It will be beneficial for women’s football in the long run.” The upcoming edition of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 will be held in India from 11 to 30 October 2022.
