Andhra Pradesh: Government going to set up APCO Mega Showroom across the state

Visakhapatnam: Gudivada Amarnath, Minister of Industries, IT, Commerce, Handlooms and Textiles of Andhra Pradesh shared big information about APCO Mega Showroom. On Sunday, he said that steps are being taken by the government to set up Apco Mega Showrooms across the state on the lines of Hyderabad, Delhi and Kolkata. The Minister said that there is a good recognition and demand for handloom and silk fabrics all over the country. He gave this information during the state level 8th National Handloom Day celebrations at the Zilla Parishad Hall.

He said that in the coming year, a target has been set to sell handloom fabrics worth Rs 100 crore across the state. Mentioning that the celebrations are held in all the 26 districts of the state, he said that the handloom sector is the largest employer in the country after agriculture. The minister informed that 1 lakh 30 thousand handloom workers are working directly in the state and another 70,000 people are dependent on this sector.

An amount of Rs 567.07 crore has been spent on the development of handlooms in the state under the ‘YSR Netanna’ scheme in the last three years. The minister claimed that handloom fabrics worth Rs 49 lakh were sold through e-commerce, and added that mega epco showrooms would be opened in Visakhapatnam.
