New Delhi. Carlos Alcarez, who made his tennis debut playing for the first time at the Madrid Open 2022, has created history. The 19-year-old young star has thrashed two of tennis’s biggest stalwarts Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at the Madrid Open, becoming the first player to do so in the same clay court event. The Spaniard defeated Novak Djokovic 6-7(5), 7-5, 7-6(5) in the ATP Masters 1000 event on Saturday to clinch the record.

The young Spanish tennis star had earlier on Friday night won the quarterfinal match against Rafael Nadal in a spectacular manner. In the semi-final match played at Manola Santana Stadium, Carlos Alcarez suffered a tie breaker defeat in the first set but after that he came back strongly and defeated world No. 1 tennis star Novak Djokovic in the next two sets. .

After winning the match that lasted 3 hours and 35 minutes, Alcarez said, ‘I don’t know what the difference was between us. It was a very exciting and close match. He had a chance to break my serve at the end of the second set. It was very close in the first set as well and later it was decided through tie break. To be honest, I don’t know what changed in the next two sets.
With this win, Alcarez became the first player to beat Nadal and Djokovic in the same clay court event, taking his win-loss record to 27-3 this season.

Alcarez has had a wonderful season in 2022 as he won his first title at the Masters 1000 event in Miami and broke into the top 10 of the ATP rankings for the first time. With victories at the Madrid Open against Nadal and Djokovic, their winning streak against the top 10 players has reached 6.
