Shefali Shah’s sharp eyes but empty eyes and Alia Bhatt’s strong eyes in spite of being a helpless deal will make you excited for the upcoming story and you would like to know whether these two have the same story? Or how different from each other. Vijay Varma does full justice to the character of a ruthless husband equipped with a love interest but this story is not his and you will miss the screenplay at many places.

Roshan Mathew is in a supporting role in the film but nothing has come of his parts to strengthen the script. He is only used as a prop in this story. Like the rest of the supporting characters of the film – Kiran Karmakar and Rajesh Sharma. It is not that there was no place for these characters in the film but they have not been given so much attention and you will see it while watching the film.

This is Jasmeet’s debut as a director and she manages to deliver a good film to a great extent. However, Darlings have their flaws and these flaws may not be there in the story but they are definitely visible on screen. The first half of the film tries to keep you engaged with every second every frame by becoming an intense drama, while after the interval the film seems to be leaving fast. If numbers are to be tried, you can give full numbers to Jasleen’s direction here, which tries to keep the half-baked dark comedy of the second half interesting as well.

Good dialogue balances the film

Darlings’ shortcomings are largely balanced by its good dialogue. Why do these dead people become drunken PK executioners? When this question is asked by a strong woman like Shamsu, a policeman gives her a straightforward answer without any pity and pity – because the woman lets it be. This is where both the condition and the direction of the story of Darlings are indicated and the film does so.

The film touches on important issues

I am a bastard, but my love is not a bastard. Think if you don’t love then why kill? If you don’t love why would you tolerate? In the film, when Hamza tells this to his darlings Badru, she fights a battle of heart and pain. The pain that Hamza gives him every night as a beast and the heart that still has love for Hamza. But even if she falls in love with the wrong person, should she be saved, Darlings talk about it superficially without even touching the issue.

Closest mirror to domestic violence

Darlings tries to show how the society sees domestic violence, but in the process of lightening the film, its effect gets suppressed somewhere. Like increasing the music of your house after hearing the sound of beating of neighbors but don’t interfere between Mian and wife. Wives do not file police complaints despite suffering domestic violence, if the police advise for divorce, then the parents believe that the stamp of divorce becomes so difficult for a woman. But most importantly offering two completely different solutions to fighting domestic violence. Where Badru, despite battling domestic violence, wants to give a chance to her husband and blames Daru for the violence until it happens without Daru. On the other hand, Badru’s mother who shows him only two options from the beginning – either kill the husband or leave him.

Music gives good support

There was never any need to explain why Gulzar sahib is called the magician of the pen. His magic is also clearly visible in the title track Please of Darlings. At the same time, the music of two songs of the film has been given by Vishal Bhardwaj and his impression is clearly visible on these two songs. At the same time, these songs have a clear effect on the film and wherever the film starts getting more serious, just these songs are enough to lighten the mood of the film.

There should be a Trigger Warning

Darlings, even though a sensitive issue like domestic violence has been promoted as dark comedy, but when it comes to domestic violence, it only remains dark and the comedy seems to be forced. Some scenes from Darlings can give many women the mirror of their lives and for this the film should come with a trigger warning. We would also advise you that if some parts of your life still bother you then darlings may bother you more than entertainment.

The star of the film is Climax

Despite the flaws, the Darlings once again rise to the occasion with their climax. Which will probably be in your mind from the beginning of the film but still it gives you comfort to see the same climax on screen. And that’s what makes this story a star. Usually predictable climax often spoils the mood of the audience but this is not the case with Darlings.
