New Delhi, 31 May. Ganga Dashami or Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. This time Ganga Dashami is coming on 9th June 2022. Before this, the ten-day Ganga Dussehra festival will be celebrated from May 31 to June 9 on the banks of the river Ganges. This festival is celebrated for 10 days on the banks of the river Ganges, especially in the Ganges Sagar. In these days, devotees earn merit by bathing in the Ganges river, worshiping Mother Ganga, doing charity and penance etc.

Take bath by adding Gangajal to the bath water at home.

The day when Mother Ganga, the center of faith of Indians, touched the earth for the first time after coming out of Shiva’s hair, that day is celebrated as Ganga Dussehra. Taking a holy dip in the Ganges on this day washes away the sins of many births. It is important to take a bath in the Ganges on the day of Ganga Dashami, but this time it is not possible due to the corona epidemic, then take a bath by adding Gangajal to the bathing water in your own home. Mentally remember Ganga Maiya. After this worship the idol of Mother Ganga wearing pure white clothes. Along with this, worship of King Bhagirath, Himalaya and Shiva is also done. On this day all kinds of desires are fulfilled by anointing Shiva with Gangajal.

Dussehra got its name from ten yoga

According to the Puranas, on the day when Ganga descended on the earth, ten auspicious yogas were formed and due to these ten sins of man are destroyed, hence this day is called Dussehra. On the day of Ganga Dussehra, Jyeshtha month, Shukla Paksha, Dashami Tithi, Wednesday, Hasta Nakshatra, Gar Karan, Ananda Yoga, Vyatipat Yoga, Moon of Virgo, Sun of Taurus In these 10 yogas, a person gets rid of sins by bathing in the Ganges.

What to do if you can’t go to the banks of the Ganges

  • It is not possible for everyone to take a bath on the banks of the Ganges, so bathe by adding Gangajal to the bathing water in your own home.
  • After this worship Ganga with the following mantra- Om Namo Bhagavatyai Dashpapaharayai Gangaye Krishnay Vishnuroupinayai Nandinayai Namo Namah.
