new Delhi. It is early days for Rishabh Pant in international cricket but the wicketkeeper-batsman has already seen many ups and downs. He flopped on English pitches and on Australian soil, was criticized and even dropped from the team. However, during India‘s tour of Australia in 2020-21, Pant’s bad luck went away and since then he has not looked back. Pant played some breathtaking innings in that tour as India registered a 2-1 win in the Test series. Team India’s batting coach Vikram Rathor is quite impressed with Pant’s progress as he praised Pant. He believes that the 24-year-old still has a long way to go.

Speaking to The Week, Rathore said, “He’s suddenly grown up. Rohit and Dravid are now leading the team and he knows Pant is a key player in India’s setup. He’s a player now. He’s matured. He’s getting better, but he still has a long way to go.”

After the retirement of Pant MS Dhoni, the wicketkeeper is also considered important. Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020. Since then, Pant has been given a lot of opportunities by the team management. He has been entrusted with the responsibility of a finisher. Speaking on the same, Rathore has backed Pant to succeed in that role. Rathair said, “He will be the finisher at No. 5 or No. 6, he knows. No one is asking him to score a century in ODIs. He will always be an impressive player and even if he is scoring 40-50 runs consistently and If he is winning for the team then it is fine.

Rishabh Pant is currently leading Delhi in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He had made it to the playoffs last year, but this time around, Pant would like to lay his hands on the trophy.
