The whole country has showered love on Umran

It was a very different Sunday for Umran Malik’s father, where he was shopping at his fruit shop when a news alert came about his son’s selection in the Indian team.

He said, ‘Suddenly a crowd of people started gathering near me and started congratulating me. I am going home now and celebrate with family. I saw news on the internet. What can be a bigger success for any player than playing in the colors of his country. He has widened the chest of all of us with his performance in the IPL and the way the entire nation has showered love on him, my entire family is thankful to him. My Umran has got support from all over the country.

It is noteworthy that in reaching this level of Umran Malik, his father Abdul Rashid and his wife have made a lot of sacrifices so that he can overcome the difficulties and make his dream come true, but despite this he does not want to take any credit for his success.

He said, ‘Umran had faith in himself that one day he would definitely reach the pinnacle of success. Her hard work coupled with her faith and talent has brought her where she is today. This is totally his success and God’s blessings. He worked hard for this and God bless him, I cannot take any credit for his hard work.’

Significantly, after Parvez Rasool, Umran Malik has become the second bowler from Jammu and Kashmir to play for India. While Rasool hails from the valley, Umran Malik hails from Jammu and has learned bowling skills under coach Randhir Singh Manhas and former first class pacer Ram Dayal. Talking about Umran’s selection, Manhas recalled how at the age of 17 he had requested me to bowl only in the nets and what happened after that is all history.

Talking about his son’s stamina, Umran’s father also said, “At just 17 years old, you will hardly find a player of his stature without gym training. We should not speak with our tongue but its stamina is worth seeing, since childhood, used to play from morning till evening for the whole day. Now I want him to work even harder and perform well while playing for the country. He should focus on playing for India for a long time. We just want him to increase the honor of the country with his performance and nothing else matters. The day he makes his debut, I will cheer him along with my entire family.
