Electing to bat after winning the toss, the start of the Indian team was average. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer shared 38 runs for the first wicket. In the 5th over, Ishan returned to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs off 13 balls. After this, Deepak Hooda, who came to bat, took over the innings. He shared a 76-run partnership with Iyer for the second wicket. In the 12th over, Hooda was dismissed for 38 runs in 25 balls. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for 64 runs in 40 balls on the last ball of the 13th over. After this, Sanju Samson scored 15, Dinesh Karthik 12, Hardik Pandya 28 and Axar scored 9 runs.
