Indian compound team won gold again in Archery World Cup, celebrated in Pushpa style

New Delhi, May 21: The Indian men’s team clinched the gold medal by defeating France in Gwangju, South Korea on Saturday in successive stages of the Archery World Cup. This victory has come in the compound event.

India’s compound archery trio of Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Rajat Chauhan displayed their spirit when they came back strongly against France in the men’s team final. The trio had won gold medals in the Antalya World Cup earlier in the season. Even then they defeated France in the final. These players also celebrated ‘Pushpa Style’ celebration after registering the victory.

India then defeated hosts and top seed Turkey on their way to the final in Antalya. Similarly, this time too, India jumped into the title campaign by defeating hosts and top seed Korea in the semi-finals.

Soon after, star compound archer Abhishek Verma teamed up with 17-year-old Avneet Kaur in the mixed team bronze medal playoff, where India defeated Turkey to finish third.

Earlier, the Indian women’s team of Avneet Kaur, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar lost to South Korea 228-230 in the semi-finals, but they beat Turkey 232-231 to finish third on the podium.

Now Mohan Bhardwaj will be in action later on Saturday in the compound individual event.

Riddhi, Ankita and Komalika Bari won bronze medals in the recurve women’s team event. However, the recurve archery events proved disappointing and there were no Indian achievements on the day of the final on Sunday.
