New Delhi, March 15: India captain Rohit Sharma’s long goal is to win the World Test Championship. Also, under Rohit’s captaincy, Pant’s old style has started showing and behind this is the advice of the team management which has given confidence to the wicketkeeper. Pant has been asked to play freely. Due to which the impact of Pant’s batting on the match is immediate. Apart from this, Rohit has described Pant’s keeping as the best he has ever seen. Also appreciated Pant’s contribution in DRS.

On the new captaincy role, Rohit said, “There are some senior members in the team who understand the game very well and have their inputs. I have my understanding of the game as well. But ultimately, you work on your understanding.” And the philosophy of my captaincy is to make the right decision at the right time. Do what you think is right, keeping in mind where the game is going. I try to analyze these things on the ground.”

Rohit also praised Jasprit Bumrah, who took 8 wickets in the match. He said that “to bowl on certain pitches, you need certain skill-sets. And he brings those skill-sets into play depending on what kind of assist he gets from the pitch.” .

“In Mohali, we saw a different kind of pitch and he was effective even then. It was a different kind of pitch. It was spinning and bouncing and everything was happening for the spinners.”

Rohit has also told that in the coming years you will see Bumrah playing a lot of Test matches in India and on foreign soil but it is important to keep such players fresh so Bumrah will be rested as and when needed.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane did not play in this series. Rohit said on this, “We were missing two of our experienced batsmen (Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane) but it was a challenge for Hanuma Vihari to bat in a new position.

“And Iyer batting at six was going to be another challenge, but he showed a lot of maturity in the way he played on those challenging wickets. We achieved everything we wanted as a team.”
