It was a big low score thriller-
Chasing 129, RCB were dealt a blow by KKR pacers Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee’s scintillating new ball bowling. RCB posted 17/3 in just 2.1 overs after losing openers du Plessis and Anuj Rawat, after which Yadav got the big wicket of Virat Kohli.
However, RCB tried to emerge thanks to David Willey (18) and Sherfane Rutherford (28). All-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed also came after scoring 27 runs. However, RCB suffered a setback in the final overs as Tim Southee took 2 wickets. Including Rutherford and Wanindu Hasaranga.
Dinesh Karthik is freezing in the finishing-
With 17 runs needed from the last 2 overs, RCB had Dinesh Karthik in the middle and as expected the experienced wicketkeeper-batsman did the finishing work. When 7 was needed in the last over, Karthik completed the match by taking the bouncer of an Andre Russell bouncer for a six. After this the ball was also sent for four for the remaining run.
Captain Faf du Plessis described as cool as Dhoni-
Faf du Plessis spoke about keeping Karthik in reserve for the later overs, saying, “Just did it because of experience. Runs were never a problem. We just needed to get wickets in hand. Same as DK MS Dhoni.” He is a cool minded player.”
Karthik had scored 32 runs in 14 balls in RCB’s first match against Punjab Kings but Punjab Kings were even better in that match.
Good thing to have seniors like Kohli, Karthik – Faf
Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis said that the team needs a close match to ease into the tournament. The captain also said that he is fortunate to have many seniors including Kohli and Karthik in the team.
He said, “I depend on other people for help. We have great people. There is good communication in the group. The people have been great. They have been helpful. They are coming to me with ideas.”
