Jayeshbhai Jordaar Film Review – Important topic and loud Ranveer Singh, but weak story bores

Story

Jayeshbhai lives with his family in a fictional village in Gujarat. A humble helpless husband who wants to save his wife Mudra (Shalini Pandey) and 9-year-old daughter from their parents and patriarchal society at any cost. . Mudra is pregnant and the family members want a son in any case this time. This is the last chance for Mudra, who has had 6 abortions in the affair of the boy. She blames herself for this, but Jayeshbhai stands by her every opportunity. He is not an action hero, but a firm believer of intentions. In such a situation, will he be able to muster some courage to fight the society and system to save his unborn daughter and empower the women of his village! The whole story revolves around this.

acting

The strong side of the film is its starcast. Ranveer Singh is a great actor and he has proved it with every film. Ranveer is perfect in the role of Jayeshbhai. You will hate Boman Irani, the protector of patriarchal society, and this is his victory. There is a spontaneity in his acting. At the same time, Ratna Pathak Shah as Jayesh’s mother is completely strong but helpless at the same time. I wish the director had worked a little more on his character. While debutante Shalini Pandey has done a good job, there is not much here to test her acting range.

directing

This is Divyang Thakkar’s first film. But here he didn’t seem to impress much. The responsibility of both writing and directing the film was on Divyang and he was average in both the sides. This film, made on a powerful subject like female feticide, fails to keep you hooked due to the slow script. The film starts off on a good note, till the first half the good acting and the subject keeps the interest alive, but in the second half the director is seen trying to put so many issues together, which it bores. Feticide, patriarchy, equality between men and women, domestic violence… an attempt has been made to touch all the topics separately, which makes the film like a sermon. We have seen many strong Hindi films on these subjects in the past.. So there was a need for innovation here.. which is missing.

technical side

The script of the film is quite loose, but the tight editing of Namrata Rao makes the film a little better. Jayeshbhai Jordaar is just a 2-hour film, which works in favor of the film. Siddharth Divan’s cinematography is also fine and in a way sets the mood of the film. Sanchit Balhara’s background score is average.

music

The music of the film is composed by Vishal-Shekhar, which is average. But the good thing is that the songs go along with the story. ‘Seek Dheere Dheere Jaunga’ and ‘Firecracker’ grab attention for a while, but fail to make an impact. Yash Raj Banner films were once in the headlines for their music for years, but now when the songs come and go, there is no news.

see or not see

Made on a serious and sensitive topic like female feticide, this film becomes quite didactic after a time, where the entertainment seems to be forced. Despite excellent performances from Ranveer Singh, Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah and Shalini Pandey, the film fails to make an impact. 2.5 stars to ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ from Filmbeat.
