Lakshya Sen reached the final of Canada Open, PV Sindhu was eliminated in the semi-finals after a strong game

Canadian Open 2023:
Commonwealth Games gold medalist Lakshya Sen on Saturday reached the final of the men’s singles event of the Canada Open 2023 but India suffered a major setback as Olympic medalist PV Sindhu crashed out of the women’s singles event.

Sindhu lost to Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-14, 21-15 in the semi-finals. With this, the world No. 1 shuttler got the better of Sindhu in another encounter. Though Sindhu put up a tough fight, it was not enough.

In another semi-final, Lakshya defeated Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto 21-17, 21-14. Lakshya was up against the world No. 11 shuttler, against whom the world No. 19 Indian star was completely dominant.

The first set was a closely fought affair, with Lakshya leading 10-9 at the halfway point. Lakshya continued his game-winning streak. Lakshya continued the momentum in the next game as well by winning the match in 44 minutes.

Lakshya Sen has stormed into the final of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 500 event for the second time and will now take on defending All England champion Li Shi Feng of China on Sunday.

Badminton Association of India (BAI) tweeted, “Sen-Sesional Lakshya has entered the final of Canada Open 2023, Sindhu’s brilliant game has come to an end in the semi-finals.”

The Canada Open tournament began on July 4 and will conclude on July 9.
