This case of investigation of illegal streaming dates back to September 2023, when Viacom had filed a complaint against the 'FairPlay' app accusing them of violating their Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Despite the network getting the exclusive rights to stream the matches, the 'FairPlay' app was reportedly broadcasting it illegally which led to a reported loss of over Rs 100 crore to the network. After the FIR, many prominent personalities from the entertainment world including Badshah, Jacqueline Fernandez and Tamannaah Bhatia were questioned. The investigation into illegal streaming took a turning point in December 2023 when an employee of the 'FairPlay' app was arrested.
