Kuala Lumpur, July 1: India‘s campaign at the Malaysia Open Super 750 came to an end on Friday as in-form HS Prannoy lost in the men’s singles quarterfinals. Prannoy lost in straight games to 7th seed Jonathan Christie of Indonesia and his impressive performance in Kuala Lumpur ended on a disappointing note.
Prannoy, who went down 18-21, 16-21 to Christie in the quarterfinals in 44 minutes, failed to continue the win at the Malaysia Open. It was Prannoy’s third loss against Christie and second in 2022 after a straight-game loss at the Swiss Open in March.
Prannoy was in good form as he defeated third seed Chow Tien Chen on Thursday after a first-round win over local shuttler Darren Lew.
Prannoy has had a good few months in the recent past as he was an integral part of India’s historic Thomas Cup win which saw him reach the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament.
Earlier in the day, seventh seed PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, also lost 13-21, 21-15, 21-13 to second seed Tai Tzu, silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics.
After the win, the Chinese Taipei shuttler increased his dominance over the Indian legend, taking the one-on-one record to 16-5. Sindhu has now lost six consecutive matches against Tai Tzu.
