History is related to Pokhran nuclear test
May 11 was declared as National Technology Day by the Government of India to commemorate the first of the five nuclear tests under the Pokhran-II program conducted on May 11, 1998. The day was named after the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. On the same day, the test flight of the first indigenous aircraft ‘Hansa-3’ was conducted in Bengaluru.

Importance of National Technology Day 2023
The National Technology Day celebration is significant in the sense that it highlights India’s prowess in developing cost-effective indigenous technologies that provide suitable solutions in the Indian context. Technology is a part and parcel of each and every one of our lives, be it in the form of mobile phones or solar panels. India’s continued growth in this sector will not only help the country move out of import dependence, but will also help India become a global leader in technology exports in the future. India will hoist the flag on the global stage in the field of technology.

PM Modi tweeted
Today, on National Technology Day, we express our gratitude to our brilliant scientists and their efforts, which led to the successful Pokhran test in 1998. We remember with pride the exemplary leadership of Atal ji, who displayed outstanding political courage and statesmanship.
