India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra has once again brought laurels to the country in the javelin throw competition. Neeraj Chopra overcame the challenges of the Doha conditions to make a brilliant start to his 2023 athletics season. Neeraj Chopra won the Diamond League on Friday. India‘s lone gold medalist in track and field events at the Olympics, Neeraj Chopra threw a distance of 88.67 meters in his first attempt.

This distance remained the highest throughout the competition and could not be crossed by any athlete. Even Neeraj Chopra could not cross it in his next throw. 2020 silver medalist Jacob Wadlejch won the silver medal with a throw of 88.63m, just 4cm behind Neeraj Chopra. Also, world champion Anderson Peter finished third with a throw of 85.88.

Neeraj Chopra’s win has been great and he has spoken to the Diamond League website after the event. Neeraj says, “Today was a challenge for all athletes but I am happy with my result. It was a very difficult win but I am happy. It is a great start for me. I have come with the hope of winning the next competition and Looking to build consistency this season. I feel good. It’s been a great start. Although today was a challenging day, I will try to throw more throws next time.”

Neeraj Chopra also gets a lot of support. India is a big country, so there is no dearth of his fans. Chopra calls himself lucky in this regard. He further said that people have faith in me, so it feels very good. I was lucky and the atmosphere was good. Many people came to support me and they were really happy.

“If I talk about my plans this season, my target is to stay fit so that I can perform better. Sometimes it is not easy to meet the expectations of so many people in such a big country but it has been a good meeting in Doha I will continue to stay fit this season and give my best for my next competition.”

After Neeraj Chopra’s throw of 88.67m, the next throw was 86.04m. Then 85.47 meters, then foul and after that there were throws of 84.37 meters and 86.52 meters. The funny thing is that Neeraj Chopra came here to throw the 90 meter throw. He felt that a 90 meter throw could be done in Doha.

So the most important thing about Doha is that it is famous for the 90m throw and hopefully a good result tomorrow for everyone, he said at the pre-competition press conference ahead of Friday’s event.

Neeraj Chopra then said that if your competitors are strong then only you benefit. This is my first competition of the season and Jacob has already thrown 88m in South Africa so I think tomorrow’s competition is going to be great.
