Petrol is being sold at Rs 106.03 per liter and diesel at Rs 92.76 per liter in Kolkata. At the same time, petrol in Chennai is Rs 102.63 per liter and diesel Rs 94.24 per liter.

Petrol and diesel prices reduced last week
Petrol and diesel rates have seen a drastic reduction after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman last week announced a reduction in excise duty by Rs 8 per liter on petrol and Rs 6 per liter on diesel. After the government’s decision, the price of petrol in Delhi was cut by Rs 8.69 per liter, while that of diesel was cut by Rs 7.05.
These states also cut VAT
Subsequently, the state governments of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Kerala also reduced VAT on petrol and diesel following Sitharaman’s call to provide further relief to consumers after the Center cut excise duty.
Petrol and diesel prices in the country vary from state to state depending on local taxation (VAT) and freight charges. Apart from this, the central government levies excise duty on auto fuels.
