Chandigarh, 8 August 2022. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Vading has criticized the BJP-led NDA government at the Center for bringing the Electricity Regulatory Bill in Parliament today. He said that this is yet another attack on the federal structure of the country, as electricity is a state subject. The state Congress president has appealed to the Punjab government to strategize against the passage of this bill and assured full support from his party. He has also suggested convening an all-party meeting to present a strong stand against the bill, which will have dire consequences for Punjab.

Vading also slammed the BJP government for going back on the commitment made by the farmers while withdrawing the one-year-long dharna. He said that the withdrawal of the Electricity Regulatory Bill was one of the demands of the farmers and the government had agreed to it, but it has now backed down. And the generation and distribution of electricity is to be completely handed over to private companies.

State Congress President said that there is still time for like-minded parties to strongly oppose the bill and prevent it from being passed in Parliament and the need of the hour is to fight unitedly. He also announced that if need be. If so, the Congress party will launch a massive agitation against the bill and ensure that it is not implemented. He said that what could not happen under the Congress government in Punjab, which had openly supported the farmers against the three black laws, can now be implemented. However, a similar movement will be started against the electricity bill as well.
