“How do you know that you are not the character of a story? Maybe someone has written you too and you have the same words as you have been given,” Mehboob tells RK standing in front of RK angrily. Is. In RK/RKAY a film within a film plays. RK (Rajat Kapoor) is a film director working on his new film. Whose actor Mehboob is also herself and the actress is Neha (Mallika Sherawat), who is playing the character of Mehboob’s sweetheart Gulabo.

The shooting of the film gets completed, but the producer (Manu Rishi Chadda) is not satisfied with the film and suggests changing the climax. A little argument ensues between the producer and the director, but both of them lose their senses when Mehboob, the main character of the film, goes missing. Yes, missing.. that means his scenes disappear from the entire reel of the film.

Now he needs to find his character to complete the film. In such a situation, RK’s son tells him, “You have written that character, who can know Mehboob more than you…” After this RK starts searching for his character. RK/RK is one of those films where the line between reality and the imaginary world gets blurred. It is an interesting story between the creator and his creation.

Hearing this movie is as complicated as it sounds. The actors play multiple characters and most connected are some unresolved but interesting plots. Talking about the direction, Rajat Kapoor has maintained this confusing world of characters with great clarity for one and a half hours in a row. It is quite fun to watch the way he plays with the characters.

The film has also been written by Rajat Kapoor and there is no doubt that it is written quite entertaining. There is no dialogue here trying to make you laugh by force, but naturally it tickles. The special thing is that it is such a short film that it keeps you hooked from beginning to end.

But at the same time I would like to say that the positive side of the film can also prove to be its drawback. Especially for the audience watching on the big screen. The story of this film lacks big screen elements. It seems intimate like a dream. Which could also be brought to the audience through OTT route.

Technically, the film is good. The cinema of the 60s has been shown in the film, so make-up, costume and locations matter a lot.. and here the film comes to a close. Suresh Pai’s editing is very fine. Sagar Desai’s music lends a melody to the story. At the same time, Rafi Mehmood’s cinematography is very interesting and attracts attention.

acting

On the other hand, when it comes to acting, Rajat Kapoor is a brilliant artist and has been seen playing both the characters with great ease here too. While RK shows seriousness and a mystery, Mehboob is a serious character. Mallika Sherawat has done a good job in the role of Gulabo. No doubt this is the most unique character he has ever played. Ranvir Shorey, Manu Rishi Chaddha, Kubra Sait, Chandrachur Rai have also done full justice to their characters.

Rating- 3.5 Star

Rating- 3.5 Star

Overall, films like ‘RK/RK’ are rarely made in Bollywood, which take such risks with the plot. There have been films made in Hollywood, where the reality and the imaginary world become one. The film also seems to be philosophical in some parts through its characters and situations. It talks about desires, related to death and life. In the film, a character tells RK, “Your last film was a crap, it’s not that useless…”. However, we want to say that this is not a waste, but an entertaining and experimental film. 3.5 stars to Rk/Rkay from Filmybeat.
