Bhopal’s RTO officer Om Prakash Agarwal (Emraan Hashmi) is a diehard fan of superstar Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar). His only wish is that someday he can take a selfie with his favorite superstar along with his son. His dream seems to be fulfilled when superstar Vijay Kumar has to come to Bhopal in connection with the shooting. Circumstances become such that Vijay needs a new driving license and in such a situation he comes face to face with his biggest fan Om Prakash Agarwal. But during their very first meeting, a misunderstanding turns into a brawl.. and later the whole country witnesses the tussle. Vijay Kumar’s driving license becomes a national issue. Now how a fan becomes the enemy of his own favorite superstar, the whole story revolves around this.

Akshay Kumar is so comfortable in the character of superstar Vijay Kumar that sometimes it seems that he is playing himself on the big screen. Be it his emotional moments with his wife Diana Penty in the film or his altercation with his biggest fan… Akshay has lived every emotion on screen with ease. His fans will definitely be happy to see him doing comedy after a long time. At the same time, Emraan Hashmi, who has become RTO officer and Vijay Kumar’s biggest fan, is also in his role. There is more emotional drama in his part, in which he comes true. Although the director could have worked a little more on his bonding with the son, which would have made more of an emotional connection. Nusrat Bharucha didn’t have much in the role of Emraan Hashmi’s wife. At the same time, it is good to see Mahesh Thakur playing a supporting role after a long time.

direction and technical side

Selfie is director Raj Mehta’s third film after Good Newwz and Jug Jug Jeeyo. The special thing is that all three of his films are a mixture of emotion and comedy. This is the reason why Selfie, being a remake, looks different from the original. There are some shortcomings in strengthening the characters, but it would not be wrong to say that Raj Mehta has made a good remake, which entertains you equally. He has made Selfie more commercial than the original film. Especially the first half of the film is very interesting and keeps you hooked. The story seems a bit dragging in the second half, but comes on track till the climax.

Rishabh Sharma’s dialogues are good. Some comedy sequences turn out to be great, while the conversation between a superstar and a fan in the climax seems a bit emotional. On the editing table, Ritesh Soni could have tightened the story a bit more in the second half. Rajeev Ravi’s cinematography gives full support to the story. From the streets of Bhopal to the view of the RTO office and the chic of the superstar… Rajeev has captured the best with his camera.

music

There are four songs in Selfie, but the special thing is that only one song has been included in the film. The film begins with ‘Kudiye ni teri vibe’ picturized on Akshay Kumar and Mrunal Thakur. Whereas, “Main Khiladi Tu Anari” is shown in the end credits. The absence of songs in the story, somewhere works in favor of the film.

Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi’s Selfie may be a remake of the Malayalam film ‘Driving License’, but director Raj Mehta has tried to present it in his own style and has also been successful.
