Karachi. After the stupendous success of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Rameez Raja has proposed a new model that according to him will take the country’s franchise T20 league to even greater heights. The 1992 World Cup winning player is hoping to change the system with the auction model starting next year. Meanwhile, Raja has also got the support of veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik. Giving further clarification on this, Malik said that the auction model will go a long way in attracting big players in future. At the same time, he also mentioned that this innovative strategy will go a long way in further enhancing the brand value of PSL.

Malik said, “We have taken a lot of steps to improve HBL PSL but if we have to take it to IPL level, we should consider moving from draft to auction model to attract the biggest stars of the game. I know IPL has evolved, and it started many years before PSL, but I think now we can move to this model to further enhance the brand value. You can put a limit on something else, but this is the need of the hour.”

Meanwhile, this year’s PSL’s profit jumped to 71 percent, the highest in the history of the competition since its inception in 2016. Multan Sultans were the defending champions and made consistent final appearances, but lost in the final to Lahore Qalandars by 42 runs. Even Shoaib Malik took part in Pakistan Super League this year. He was the fourth highest run scorer in the competition. He scored 401 runs in 11 matches at an average of 44.55 and a strike rate of 137.32. He was instrumental in making the knockouts at Peshawar Zalmi where they lost to Islamabad United in Eliminator One.
