new Delhi, Former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel has been appointed as the power-hitting coach of the Bangladesh team for the upcoming tour of South Africa. This news has been confirmed by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chairman Jalal Yunus.

Younis said Morkel is an experienced cricketer and can help Bangladesh batsmen as a coach. Morkel has reportedly started his term as well. A few weeks ago, Proteus pacer Allan Donald was appointed as the Bangladesh cricket team’s fast bowling coach, and now Morkel will join his fellow South African in the Bangladesh coaching setup.

“He is a very experienced campaigner and we feel that his coaching will help our batsmen,” Younis told Cricbuzz. The reason why the Bangladesh cricket team has appointed Albie Morkel as the power-hitting coach is that the team has been performing poorly in the limited-overs format. Also, this is the first time someone from Bangladesh has been appointed as the power-hitting coach.

Albie Morkel brings with him a lot of experience. The 40-year-old Morkel has represented the South African team in 58 ODIs and 50 T20Is. The right-arm medium pacer also took 77 wickets in his international career. Apart from this, South Africa also has a lot of experience in playing the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Morkel has played 91 matches in his IPL career and scored around 1000 runs at a horrific strike rate of 141.98. He has also taken a total of 85 wickets in T20 competition. Besides Morkel’s appointment, the Bangladesh cricket team also appointed Jamie Siddons as the team’s batting coach. Bangladesh cricket team will next be seen in action on the field when they take on South Africa in a three-match ODI series starting 18 March 2022.
