Inflation figure above RBI limit

According to the released data, the consumer price index (CPI) inflation has gone up to 7.79 percent in April 2022. Whereas it was 6.95 percent in March 2022. Whereas in April 2021, it was 4.21 percent. The consumer price-based inflation data has remained above the Reserve Bank of India‘s (RBI) limit for four consecutive months. The Center has entrusted the RBI with the task of keeping retail inflation in the range of 2 to 6 percent.

Inflation continues

According to government data released on Tuesday, consumer price-based inflation rose to 6.95 per cent in March, mainly on account of costlier food items. The consumer price index (CPI) based inflation stood at 6.07 per cent in February. Inflation in the food basket stood at 7.68 per cent in March, from 5.85 per cent earlier.

Sharp rise in the prices of fruits and vegetables
According to the data, the prices of food items have also increased significantly in April. Food inflation has risen to 8.38 per cent this month from 7.68 per cent in March. The impact of the sharp jump in the prices of fruits and vegetables at the domestic level, including the rise in the prices of edible oil and cereals at the global level, is visible on the food inflation.
