In his address at the inaugural session of the 2nd Global COVID Virtual Summit, PM Modi said the World Health Organization needs to be reformed and strengthened to “build a more resilient global health security framework”. Along with this, PM Modi also spoke on the use of traditional medicines in India.

PM Modi stressed on streamlining the WHO approval process for vaccines and medical science to keep the supply chain stable. He said, “It is clear that dealing with future health emergencies requires a coordinated global response. We must build a resilient global supply chain and ensure equitable access to vaccines and medicines. As a responsible member, India stands ready to play an important role in these efforts.”

In the second Global Kovid Summit being held in a virtual way, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that we have kept the highest share in our annual health care budget so far. Our vaccination program is the largest in the world. We have fully vaccinated almost 90% of the adult population and over 50 million children. India is the manufacturer of four WHO-approved vaccines and has the capacity to produce 5 billion doses this year.

With this, PM Modi further said that we have supplied 200 million doses of Kovid vaccine to 98 countries. India has developed low-cost covid pressure technology for test, treatment and data management. We have offered these capabilities to other countries as well.

Let us inform that before this, PM Modi participated in the first global virtual summit on Kovid organized by US President Joe Biden on 22 September last year. The aim of the summit is to inspire new efforts to address the challenges of the COVID pandemic, as well as to build a robust global health protection infrastructure.
