London, 10 July: Serbian star Novak Djokovic clinched his 2022 Wimbledon title by defeating Nick Kyrgios of Australia 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at Center Court on Sunday. Djokovic, who came under criticism at the Australian Open for his attitude towards the Kovid dose, marks a spectacular return to tennis.

Roger Federer, 35, became the fourth player after Pete Sampras and Bjorn Borg to win four consecutive titles in SW19. Djokovic holds a total of seven Wimbledon titles, with his last four being in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. It was also his 8th Wimbledon final.

The world number three got off to a bad start after losing the first set. Kyrgios worked hard to reach the final without playing a semi-final match due to Nadal’s injury. But from the second set onwards, Djokovic rose to the occasion and didn’t give the Aussie much breathing room.

“Every time, winning it gets more special,” said top seed Djokovic.

“It has always been and will be the most special tournament in my heart. That inspired me and inspired me to start playing tennis in a small mountain resort in Serbia.”

With this he extended his consecutive victories in grass-court Grand Slam tournaments to 28 matches and extended his career run to 21 major trophies.

Among men, only Federer has won more titles at Wimbledon than Djokovic. Federer has done this 8 times.
