Wrestlers Protest: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi also came to the dharna being given by Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Poonia along with other wrestlers at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. After this there has been a response from Babita Phogat. Babita urged not to use this platform for politics.

Wrestler Babita wrote on her Twitter handle that we players who reach from zero to the top are capable of fighting our own battles. The platform of sportspersons should not be made a platform for baking political bread. Some leaders are engaged in polishing their politics from the platform of players. Players should also keep this in mind. We do not belong to any one nation but to the whole nation.

Significantly, a protest is being held demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India. Delhi Police has also filed an FIR against Brij Bhushan regarding sexual allegations. The wrestlers demand that the president should be arrested and removed from all posts.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi also reached the dharna on Saturday morning, after which a tweet was also made on her behalf. Priyanka Gandhi had written that these players are our pride. They win medals for the country by hard work and struggle. Their exploitation, their insult. Every woman of the country is insulted. They should get justice – the whole country wants this.

On the other hand, Brij Bhushan Singh termed the allegations of the players as a conspiracy and said that they do not participate in national events and do not give trials. These players directly want representation at the international level. On this Vinesh Phogat said that she has been playing nationals for 14 years. I had played national before and will play in future also. Bajrang and others went ahead only after giving trial.

On the other hand, Vinesh Phogat retorted on Babita’s statement and tweeted and accused her of weakening the movement. Vinesh wrote that if the aggrieved women cannot stand for the rights of the wrestlers, then Babita behen requests you with folded hands not to weaken our movement. It has taken years for women wrestlers to raise their voice against their harassment, you are also a woman and try to understand our pain.
